| Growth Through Knowledge
|
This program is designed to
equip residents and community members with a fundamental knowledge of tobacco, alcohol and
other drug use/abuse and HIV/AIDS, with the purpose to go into their own community to
educate and motivate others. The goals of this program are:
 | To positively impact the environment by changing
substance abuse/use norms within the community.

 | To empower participants to empower others.
|
 | To provide a linkage to existing resources in the
area.
|
 | To support all participants in maintaining
abstinence from all substances and to motivate others to do the same.
|
 | To increase community awareness of the relationship
between high-risk behaviors (particularly drug use) and HIV/AIDS.

| Peer Counseling Training |
Peer training will be
offered to residents who successfully complete the GTK. Our professional staff will
provide training to residents to prepare them to assist with ongoing prevention
presentations. |
| Substance Abuse
Awareness |
Three (3) trainings will be
provided throughout the year to employees in the area of drug and substance abuse
awareness. Information will center on how employees can best assess and deal with
drug-related incidents. |
| Family Support Services |
Family support services will
be offered to better address the drug-related issues prevalent among single-female heads
of household. Woodward Counseling will provide supportive services in the areas of
parenting skills, conflict resolution, substance abuse referrals, mental health referrals,
co-dependency issues and relationship problems. |
| Male/Female
Responsibility Program |
Comprehensive rites of
passage programs will be designed to assist both young men and young women in reaching
adulthood and making the appropriate transition from boy to man, girl to woman. This
program is designed to provide them with individualized and group support in a cooperative
learning setting. Participants will be exposed to psychological, recreational,
occupational, spiritual and social activities. |
| Annual Information Fair |
Woodward Counseling will
assist residents and management with the development of an annual information fair during
the Summer of 1999 for the purpose of disseminating drug prevention information and
promoting prevention activities throughout the entire complex and surrounding area. |
